A PNEUMATICALLY OPERATED GIFFORD-MCMAHON CRYOREFRIGERATOR HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY DEVELOPED. AIR IS USED AS THE WORKING SUBSTANCE. TEMPERATURES DOWN TO 140 K COULD BE OBTAINED UNDER NO LOAD CONDITIONS USING COMPRESSED AIR AT 810 KILOPASCAL. THE REFRIGERATING CAPACITY AT 160 K IS ABOUT 2 WATT WITH THE INLET PRESSURE OF 810 KILOPASCAL.
