Summary
Development of a Vuilleumier cycle heat pump in co-operation with the Japan Gas Association and four Gas Utilities under the sponsorship of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry is described in the paper. A practical outdoor unit of an air-conditioner has been demonstrated in both the cooling mode with chilled water supply and the heating mode with hot water supply. The results of demonstrations show 4 kilowatts cooling power and 6 kilowatts heating power with coefficients of performance 0.63 and 1.34, respectively. Several machines are being tested under practical conditions in Sanyo and Gas Utilities.
