Development of cryosurgical devices and procedures for cryolesion of tumours and pain elimination in the oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Author(s) : HERZOG R., BINNEBERG A., BÖHM M., et al.

Summary

New liquid nitrogen based cryosurgical devices were developed. Special high performance cryoprobes use efficient liquid nitrogen cooling power for treatment of tumours in the oral cavity, bone cancer in the mandible and for pain elimination at trigeminal neuralgia. Thermophysical properties and freezing parameters of cryosurgical devices were evaluated by experimental lab-tests in tissue-like substances and in organic tissue by means of ex-vivo organ perfusion in correlation with histological investigations.
