Development of orifice pulse tube refrigerator.

Summary

Results to date confirm that the single-stage orifice pulse tube device can reach about 50 K. It is believed that the experimental orifice pulse tube refrigerator has not yet been fully optimized, although further improvements in performance are expected to be small. Cooling capacities are still limited and efficiencies relatively low. It is clear that further work is required if the potential of this device is to be fully exploited. The orifice pulse tube, otherwise known as valved pulse tube, is described in this paper. Also an experimental test rig is developed and the results obtained so far are discussed.
