Summary

The paper contains a survey of the refrigeration system organization and events which have directly or indirectly influenced the development of the cold chain in areas of today's Yugoslavia. Special attention is paid to the circumstances under which the Customs War (1906-1911) begun and has lasted. Significant data from biography of Dorde Stanojevic, who was the pioneer of development of refrigeration system in Yugoslavia and the first rector of the Belgrade University, have been mentioned, as well as the important events between two World Wars, circumstances under which the national refrigeration committees were founded.
