Development of solar thermal heating and cooling systems using the jet pump cycle.

Author(s) : FENTON R., KNOWLES S., EAMES I. W., et al.

Summary

The jet pump or ejector cycle is a proven, thermally-driven cooling circuit. This paper describes the development of a refrigerator and air-conditioning (AC) system adapted to run from solar thermal panels. The development and performance testing of a small scale (1.5 kW) AC system and a household sized refrigerator (80 W) is described. Based upon achieved cooling performance of these systems, a design for a modular, solar thermal, heating and cooling system is proposed. The operation of the proposed system is explained and predictions are given for the heating and cooling performance and for the energy saving potential of the system.
