Summary

In order to get better efficiency for refrigeration equipment, the inverter-fed control has become mainstream in the market. The paper describes the research of a compressor drive module with DC brushless motor used in a household refrigerator. The key technologies comprise DC inverter-fed control, brushless DC motor sensor-less control, and performance improvement of DC inverter-fed compressor. A DC brushless motor and sensor-less driver with six-step square-waves control algorithm has been implemented in an R-134a reciprocating compressor in the study. The developed prototype has been used with calorimeter to test and verify driver efficiency and compressor energy efficiency ratio. Experimental results are also discussed.
