Diffusers for horizontal air flow.

Summary

Experiments have been carried out to convey ventilation air horizontally through a room, by means of a concentrated air supply and radial dispersion. One of the difficulties with the supply diffusers used was that the turbulence intensity around them was too high. This has led to disturbances in air dispersion and a resulting decrease in the air change efficiency. A textile material has been placed around the edge of the diffuser to dampen velocity gradients and turbulence of incoming air flow to the room. A small-scale model has been used to show the flow sequence. The air change efficiency has been determined. The relevant results have been compared with plate and perforated plate diffusers. A potential flow model is given for horizontal displacement ventilation.
