Summary

A PAIR OF 100 A DISCONNECTABLE CURRENT LEADS FOR SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS HAS BEEN TESTED. THIS RESEARCH NOTE DESCRIBES THE DEVICE AND GIVES THE RESULTS OF THE TESTS. THE LIQUID HELIUM CONSUMPTION DUE TO THE JOULE DISSIPATION OF THE GOLD CONTACTS IS SMALL COMPARED TO THE SAVING WHEN THE LEADS ARE DISCONNECTED. DURING AN AVERAGEDUTY CYCLE, THE OVERALL EFFICIENCY IS, THEREFORE, INCREASED BY A FACTOR OF 2 OVER THAT FOR PERMANENT CURRENT LEADS.
