Summary
Reviews evidence of substantial occupant dissatisfaction with thermal comfort and air quality in air conditioned commercial buildings. The evidence is drawn from a sampling of international literature and from the results of a recent survey of twelve air conditioned, mixed-mode and naturally ventilated Australian buildings. Discusses reasons for observed dissatisfaction. Proposes a design strategy aimed at improving acceptance. Presents evidence which suggests that this strategy will result in valuable energy savings.
