Duct liner: problem or solution?
Author(s) : TINSLEY R. W.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The author states that glass fibre is a safe and cost effective means of noise control if used sensibly, i.e., keeping moisture away from it, providing access for inspection and cleaning. Removal of duct liner will not, in itself prevent or eliminate microbial growth. Lack of duct liner can require larger ducts to reduce velocity noise and longer runs to provide sufficient attenuation. Also, larger fans running at slower rpm may be needed to reduce fan noise. This in turn would require larger, more expensive fan plenums.
