Summary

The European Directive on the Ecodesign of Energy Related products defines a strong legal frame to constrain the environmental performances of new products on the EU market (CE marking). The main technical part enabling the definition of regulations in this directive is a preparatory study, which follows a generic methodology The main results of this study for central air-conditioning systems are reported here: environmental impacts of the stock of products in use, potential impact of regulatory scenarios at the EU scale. Main uncertainties linked to the application of the methodology to this product type are discussed.
