THE SCOPE FOR SIGNIFICANT COST REDUCTIONS IN VARIOUS PROCESS INDUSTRIES, DUE TO ENERGY ECONOMICS WITH REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT, IS REVIEWED. CORRECT SELECTION OF COMPRESSOR TYPE IS DISCUSSED TOGETHER WITH PROPER MATCHING TO HEAT TRANSFER EQUIPMENT. THE MAIN EMPHASIS IS ON LARGE-SCALE SCHEMES FOR COMBINED POWER GENERATION, HEATING AND REFRIGERATION. THE ROLES OF ABSORPTION REFRIGERATION, AIR-COOLED CONDENSERS AND HEAT PUMPS ARE OUTLINED, TOGETHER WITH THE OPTIMUM CHOICE OF WORKING FLUID.
