Effect of environmental parameters on performance of fin-tube heat exchanger under frosting.

Summary

A numerical model is developed to study the unsteady heat and mass transfer characteristics of fin-tube heat exchanger under frosting conditions. Effect of environmental parameters including the air inlet temperature and relative humidity along with volumetric flow rate of air on the performance of heat exchanger are studied. A Modelica language based model of fin-tube heat exchanger is developed using OpenModelica simulation environment. Total heat transfer rate which includes the sensible and latent portions, pressure drop, total accumulated frost mass and blockage ratio across the heat exchanger are reported under varying parameters.
