Summary
The baffle-shell leakage has slight contribution to the local heat transfer at the surfaces of the external tubes of the tube bundle, but greatly reduces the per-compartment average heat transfer. The baffle tube leakage is positive for the improvement of heat transfer and for reduction of pressure drop.
