Effect of three-body interactions between dissimilar molecules on the phase behaviour of binary mixtures: the transition from vapour-liquid equilibria to type III behaviour.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The authors demonstrate that three-body interactions can induce a transition from vapour-liquid equilibria to type IIIb behaviour in a model fluid. The transition is observed despite the fact that three-body interactions make a relatively small contribution to the overall energy of the fluid. However, any inference for real fluids must be tempered by the limitations of the intermolecular potentials used.
