Summary

THE PROPERTIES OF CONCRETE AND ITS STRUCTURE, THE MOTION OF WATER IN CONCRETE, AND FROST GENERATION IN CONCRETE ARE OVERVIEWED. THE FOLLOWING FACTORS AFFECT CONCRETE DEGRADATION: ABRUPT HEAT CHANGES, ICING DUE TO CAPILLARITY, DEWATERING, LAMINAR FREEZING, SURFACE MANTLE, STRESSES IN CONCRETE DUE TO DIFFERENTLY EXPANDING COMPONENTS.
