Summary

SEVERAL STRAIN RATES WERE APPLIED IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECTS OF THE SPECIMEN DIAMETER AND GAUGE LENGTH ON THE TEMPERATURE RISE, TENSILE PROPERTIES AND SERRATION BEHAVIOUR OF AUSTENITIC STEELS AT 4 K. WHILE THE TENSILE PROPERTIES REMAINED UNCHANGED, A DECREASE IN THE SPECIMEN DIAMETER CAUSED A REDUCTION INTHE TEMPERATURE RISE WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY DUE TO A LOWERING IN THE FLOW STRESS.
