Summary

The cold chain logistics sector plays a crucial role in the global transportation of perishable goods, requiring highly efficient and environmentally responsible refrigeration technologies. With growing international focus on sustainability, especially regarding energy consumption and refrigerant emissions, component-level optimizations have become a central point of innovation. Evaporators, as critical components of vapor-compression refrigeration cycles, directly impact the thermal efficiency and environmental footprint of cold chain systems. In this context, compact heat exchanger designs that ensure high heat transfer performance with low energy input are vital. This study presents a case analysis of a compact finned-tube evaporator designed and developed by heat exchanger manufacturer, implemented in a refrigerated transport unit tested and assembled by refrigerated transport unit manufacturer. The evaporator tests were conducted at 5ºC, -10Cº and -20Cº. The results are discussed in the light of sustainable refrigeration system design and its implications for cold chain resilience and environmental impact reduction.
