Electric driven heat pumps in central and eastern Europe.

Author(s) : ZAUGG J.

Summary

Low oil prices have made efficient energy utilization less attractive. In Europe, the situation varies from one country to another. Switzerland has succeeded in maintaining heat pump sales by providing a very "heat-pump friendly" climate. Heat pumps have acquired an environmental image. In Austria the heat pump market has developed like Germany's, but 4 years behind. Heat pumps will continue to be valued predominantly as a way to reduce CO2 emissions. Increased publicity, attractive incentive programs, and a high-level commitment of power companies have produced positive effects. In Germany future economic factors may enable new energy technologies to penetrate the market, this will also depend much on support from the German government.
