Summary
In a supermarket in the Netherlands measurements were performed on the energy consumption of refrigerated display cases, which were intermittently equipped with thermostatic and electronic expansion valves. Without lowering of the condensation pressures, energy savings were found to be 5%, whereas with lowering of the condensation pressures, the energy savings rose to 14% (at ambient temperatures of around 5 deg C). The yearly energy savings in this case is estimated at 12%, resulting in a simple payback time of 3.7 years.
