Summary

Observation of the Cooltronic fitted to an industrial liquid chiller and a milk cooling tank show an ability to maintain optimum liquid refrigerant volume in the evaporator under changing demand. The savings depend upon the evaporator type and measurements of the counterflow industrial liquid chiller evaporator show a small increase in cooling capacity together with an improvement in COP of about 2-3%. For the parallel flow milk tank evaporator, savings of up to 16% coupled with an increase in capacity of up to 24% are shown. From these results, it is predicted that a refrigerated display cabinet equipped with Cooltronic could achieve an annual saving of some 12%. The low cost of the Cooltronic would give payback in less than one year.
