Summary
EFFESUS, acronym for Energy Efficiency for EU Historic Districts’ Sustainability, is an EU funded research project running from 2012 until 2016 and involving 23 partners from 13 EU countries. Measures and tools are investigated to make significant improvements in energy efficiency whilst protecting heritage value. New technologies are being developed as well as a software tool to support decisions on improvement measures. The Decision Support System, a software tool, is supported by a multiscale
spatial model, a categorization of historic buildings and urban districts and a repository of energy efficiency retrofit solutions. New cost effective technologies are being developed and adapted for historic buildings and urban districts. These technologies include aerogel insulation products, secondary window solutions, thermal insulating mortars and radiant reflective coatings. Intelligent energy management systems adapted for historic buildings and energy generation systems from renewable energy sources suitable for installation within historic urban districts are also being studied. All these will be demonstrated in: Benediktbeuern (DE) (thermal insulating mortar); Budapest (HU) (Window upgrade and intelligent indoor climate solutions); Glasgow (UK) (aerogel insulation); Istanbul (Turkey) (radiant reflective coatings); Santiago de Compostela (ES) (Geographic Information System). In Genova (IT) and Visby (SE) data will be collected and analysed for the structured categorization of historic buildings and districts.
