Summary

THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON COMPANY HAS A PROGRAM TO ASSIST ITS CUSTOMERS IN IMPROVING THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF THEIR OPERATIONS. IN THE AREA OF REFRIGERATION, THE COMPANY HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY PROMOTING TWO RETROFIT MEASURES KNOWN AS: COMPRESSOR GROUPING, AND MECHANICAL SUBCOOLING. COMPRESSOR GROUPING IS A CONTROL MEASURE OF THE COMPRESSOR AND CONDENSER FOR OPERATIONS UTILIZING A MICROPROCESSOR. MECHANICAL SUBCOOLING USES A FLASH CHAMBER TO EXCHANGE THE THERMAL LOAD BETWEEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE SYSTEM AND THE MEDIUM AND LOW TEMPERATURE SYSTEMS.
