Energy-efficient laminar flow heat exchangers indirectly cooled display cabinets: reduced use of energy and improved temperature quality of the provisions.
Author(s) : HAGLUND STIGNOR C., AXELL M.
Summary
The research work presented in this paper shows that it is possible to obtain considerable energy savings by using more energy efficient heat exchangers in indirectly cooled display cabinets in supermarkets. Experimental investigations of traditional cooling coils and plain fin flat-tube heat exchangers have been sandwiched with theoretical parameter studies. The purpose of the experimental studies was to find which models, correlations and assumptions that best described the heat transfer and pressure drop performance of the heat exchangers and the most appropriate ones were applied in the parameter studies. One objective was to find a heat exchangers design efficient enough to satisfy the cooling demand of the display cabinet with such a small temperature difference that frosting and defrosting could be avoided. This objective was reached and avoiding frosting and defrosting of the heat exchanger in the display cabinet would result in an improved temperature quality of the displayed provisions.
