Error estimation of the classical solution for the problem of cooling air under dehumidifying conditions.

Summary

The analytical solutions used normally by the engineering community for the problem of air cooling under dehumidifying conditions contains a series of assumptions and simplifications that are revised and analysed by the authors. These solutions are compared with numerical solutions of the heat and mass transfer equations based on finite volume techniques under a test case. The errors caused by the different simplifications assumed are calculated in typical range of operating conditions. Conclusions of the work give guidance to the designer of cooling and dehumidifying air equipment when the analytical solutions can be employed without losing the calculation accuracy.
