Summary

More and more, the feasibility of the high temperature superconducting (HTS) application to the power apparatus has been growing up thanks to the development of long length HTS tape having high critical current and good mechanical characteristics. The electrical insulation characteristics at the cryogenic temperature is drastically studying in the world. Many kind of electric power equipment (cable, transformer, fault current limiter, etc.) are expected to be made of HTS and will solve many kinds of problem transporting efficiently and steadily high capacity energy to the consumers. Among them, HTS transformer is discussed in the paper, 1 MVA of HTS transformer is going to be developed and high-voltage tests in LN2 were conducted.
