Summary

As a means of transmitting large high-density electric power in the next generation, materialization of the liquid nitrogen cooled superconducting cable using a high temperature superconductor is much awaited. In recent years, research work for realizing high temperature superconducting (HTS) cables has advanced, where the development of electrical insulating system at cryogenic temperatures is one of the major research outcomes. In applied HTS cables, the multi-laid insulation system deposited in LN2 is required necessarily. The authors studied the electrical insulation characteristics of insulating materials for HTS cables in LN2. They studied the most suitable design of electrical insulation for the 22.9 kV HTS cable.
