Experimental investigation of heat and mass transfer in film absorption on horizontal and vertical tubes.

Summary

The paper describes a joint study on the simultaneous heat and mass transfer in film absorbers. The primary objective has been to obtain experimental data in water-lithium bromide absorbers employing both horizontal and vertical films. Several analytical studies have been conducted in the past fifteen years in an attempt to model the combined heat and mass transfer process in film absorption. Experimental data to support these analytical studies has been lacking. In order to provide experimental data, two apparatus have been constructed: a horizontal tube absorber (in Germany) and a vertical tube absorber (in Israel). The setup of both apparatus is described. The paper reports the results of the experiments and the reasons for the observed behaviour are discussed.
