Experimental investigation of propylene during flow condensation in structured tubes.

Number: 0335

Author(s) : TSITSILOUDIS C., LUKE A.

Summary

Experimental investigations are carried out in order to improve the correlations for the determination of the heat transfer and pressure drop in flow condensation in structured tubes. R1270 (Propylene) is used as refrigerant. The saturation pressure, the mass flux density and the inlet vapour quality of the two-phase flow are varied over a wide range for different internally structured tubes and a smooth tube. The improvement in heat transfer as well as the penalty for the pressured drop is quantified by comparing the results of the structured tubes with the smooth tube at equal inlet conditions. For the most effective structure, the enhancement of heat transfer is between 70 to 200 % compared to the smooth structure. However, the penalty due to the pressure drop is 90 % to 260 % depending on the inlet condition of the test fluid.
