EXPERIMENTAL PERFORMANCE OF A FREE-PISTON STIRLING CYCLE COOLER FOR NON-CFC DOMESTIC REFRIGERATION APPLICATIONS.

Author(s) : BERCHOWITZ D. M., UNGER R.

Summary

TEST RESULTS FROM TWO VARIANTS OF FREE-PISTON STIRLING CYCLE COOLING MACHINES ARE PRESENTED. THESE MACHINES HAVE BEEN OPTIMISED FOR OPERATION AT DOMESTIC REFRIGERATION TEMPERATURES AND CAPACITY. THE WORKING FLUID IS HELIUM. PERFORMANCE IS SHOWN TO BE VERY COMPETITIVE WHEN COMPARED TO STANDARD VAPOR COMPRESSION CYCLES NOW IN USE. OTHER FEATURES INCLUDE CONTINUOUSCAPACITY MODULATION AND LOW NOISE LEVELS. SERVICE LIFE AND COST ARE THE ONLY OUTSTANDING ISSUES.
