Experimental study of a spray adiabatic absorber using fog-jet nozzles
Author(s) : VENTAS R., LECUONA A., VEREDA C., et al.
Summary
This paper presents the experimental results of a spray adiabatic absorber with the ammonia-lithium nitrate solution as working fluid. The experimental facility is composed by all the elements of a single-effect thermochemical compressor of an absorption machine: generator, solution heat exchanger, absorber and the absorber subcooler. The injectors of the spray adiabatic absorber are fog-jet type and are located at a height of 205 mm from the bottom of the absorber. The ammonia mass fraction for the ammonia-lithium nitrate solution at the inlet of the absorbers varied from 0.45 to 0.59 and the absorber pressure from 429 to 945 kPa, as characteristics values for a single-effect absorption chiller and an absorption chiller with integrated low-compression booster (for compression ratios from 1.4 to 2.2). The results are presented in the form of the approach factor to adiabatic equilibrium, reaching values higher than 0.83 for all the data. Data show that this factor augments with the increase of the ammonia mass fraction of the solution at the inlet of the absorber and the absorber pressure does not affect this parameter.
