Experimental study on finned air coolers, working under frosting conditions.

Author(s) : DUMITRESCU R., CHIRIAC F., ILIE A., et al.

Summary

The paper reports on the effect of frosting conditions on the thermal performances of finned air coolers working with ammonia. The cooling capacity under frosting conditions was determined using 3 different methods: 1) on the ammonia side; 2) on the air side; 3) based on the energy balance of the refrigerating plant. The paper reports experimental results on the effect of frost growth on the cooling capacity; it also refers to variations over time of the frost height and density. The height of the frost layer was measured by using an image processing system.
