Experiments on a semi-hermetic compressor with motor segregated from the refrigerating system.

Summary

The paper is the continuation of the research presented at the Purdue compressor conference in 1990, describing a semi-hermetic compressor unit. The objective of the work was to present the main topics related to superheat loss during the suction process, as well as to easier maintenance operations and marked reduction of possible discharge of ozone-depleting refrigerant. The paper discusses the tests of a medium capacity unit, in order to determine its thermodynamic performance. The performance of two compressors of similar design and manufacturing characteristics, but differing motor cooling methods, was compared and analysed. The motor of the innovative compressor was cooled by a dielectric liquid in which the motor is fully immersed. These tests showed interesting results.
