Development of a CO2 transcritical reciprocating compressor.

Summary

In this article we will describe a new semihermetic CO2 transcritical compressor architecture. The first compressor efficiency optimization step will be detailed and was based on the following methodology: experimental PV diagram analysis; valve plate 1D simulation; valve plate and cylinder head 3 D thermal & flow simulation. The simulated improvements will be validated by experimental results on a prototype compressor. The second optimization will be based on a fully 3D multi-physics compression process simulation. The model will be detailed and its experimental validation phase will be discussed.
