Summary

For the selection of a fan coil unit, various aspects have to be taken into consideration, such as the cooling and/or heating capacity, the air circulation rate, and the noise production. In situations where the fan coil unit is fitted in a room where people live or work, particularly the noise emissions of the system can result in complaints. The noise emissions can be limited by acoustic attenuation on the inlet side and discharge side of the unit. Such provisions can, however, have a negative effect on the capacity and the air circulation rate of the unit because of the increased discharge pressure of the ventilators. Furthermore, the effect of the attenuation is limited because the noise production of the ventilators increases, as the discharge pressure becomes greater. This article deals with all the aspects mentioned above and their mutual interrelationship.
