Summary

THE AUTHOR MAINTAINS THAT ALTHOUGH THE PUBLISHED RATINGS FOR REFRIGERANT COMPRESSORS AND THE COOLING REQUIREMENTS OF MOST WALK-IN COOLERS AND FREEZERS ARE CORRECTLY STATED, THERE ARE STILL MANY AIR-COOLING EVAPORATORS RATED OPTIMISTICALLY. THE EFFECT IS A NATURAL BALANCE GIVING A LOWER THAN DESIGNED COMPRESSOR SUCTION PRESSURE AND HIGHER TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE OVER EVAPORATOR SURFACES. THE RESULTS ARE AN INCREASE IN FROST DEPOSITS AND HIGHER COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE TEMPERATURES. A SIMPLE FIELD TEST IS SUGGESTED TO CHECK THE CORRECT SIZING OF THE PLANT AND AN EXAMPLE IS GIVEN OF ITS USE. D.W.H.
