Fresh air fault diagnosis for the mixed air in air-handling units.

Author(s) : HOU Z., LIAN Z.

Summary

Fresh air is very important factor for indoor air quality and energy consuming. This paper develops an innovation methodology for automated detection, diagnosis and evaluation (FDD&E) of fresh air fault for the mixed air in air-handling units. The fresh air FDD&E is often required by measuring air flow rate of air duct. The flow rate measurement is notoriously difficult because of spatial variations of velocity in air duct. The strategy fresh air FDD&E strategy described in this paper is deduced by fundamental physical laws the law of energy conservation and the law of mass conservation. First, the basic principle of the approach is presented. Then the strategy is validated by real test data. Diagnosis and evaluation are achieved by estimating the ratio value of fresh air rate to total air rate. Actual results show that the relative error of estimated value is less than 7.7%.
