Summary

An increase in gas turbine power, by inlet air cooling on high ambient temperatures, means a short payback time for the refrigeration system, especially for large plants and warm sites. Now the best solution is the new electric driven centrifugal unit with high power and efficiency (COP), because of its lower price, lower energy consumption, dimension/weight, modern controls, and evaporative tower features. A technical description with an economic analysis covers a typical case in Italy, for a cycle with a total of 380 MW (ISO conditions) with two centrifugal units each with about 17 MW total cooling power, and the related system.
