GEOMETRIC PARALLEL IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BRISTOL MODULAR SYSTEM.

Author(s) : RICHARDSON D., COLE N.

Summary

THE AUTHORS REVIEWTHE TECHNIQUES AVAILABLE FOR OBTAINING PARALLEL VERSIONS OF HVAC SIMULATION SYSTEMS, AND DESCRIBE THE WORK CARRIED OUT IN BRISTOL ON A TRANSPUTER ARRAY, IN WHICH A MODULAR SYSTEM WAS IMPLEMENTED. THIS MODULAR SYSTEM USES A GEOMETRICAL PARALLELISM FOR SIMULATING THE NETWORKS OF HVAC COMPONENTS (GEOMETRIC PARALLELISM MEANS THAT THE DIAGRAM OF THE MODEL IS DIVIDED INTO CELLS AND THAT A PROCESSOR DRIVES EACH CELL). IT IS ESSENTIAL TO REARRANGE A SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM INTO CELLS IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE RATIO OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CELLS TO COMPUTATION WITHIN CELLS IS MINIMIZED: THIS IS CALLED THE LAYOUT PROBLEM.
