Summary

VAPOUR BUBBLE GROWTH, BUBBLE DEPARTURE AND STABILITY OF VAPOUR NUCLEI WERE STUDIED IN LIQUID NITROGEN AND HYDROGEN. HEAT-TRANSFER SURFACES WITH ARTIFICIAL NUCLEATION SITES WERE PRODUCED. BUBBLE GROWTH WAS RECORDED WITH A HIGH-SPEED EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS WERE COMPARED WITH THEORY. IN RE-ENTRANT CAVITIES STABLE VAPOUR NUCLEI MAY EXIST AT A RANGE OF SUPERHEAT GREATER THAN THAT IN CYLINDRICAL CAVITIES.
