FINNED TUBES DO NOT LEND THEMSELVES TO GENERAL THEORETICAL CONSIDERATIONS. A TEST STATION WAS INSTALLED FOR OPTIMIZING AND DEVELOPING THESE UNITS IN ORDER TO MAKE A SYSTEMATIC INVESTIGATION INTO HEAT EXCHANGE COEFFICIENTS THAT CAN BE OBTAINED IN TERMS OF NUMEROUS GEOMETRICAL AND FUNCTIONAL VARIABLES. THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE INSTALLATION ; ITS POTENTIALITIES ARE GIVEN AND A WIDE SERIES OF TESTS CARRIED OUT IS REPORTED.
