Summary
In many underground thermal energy storage (UTES) systems the heat pump is the key factor for successful operation. Several examples of installations with this combination are presented in this issue; underground thermal energy storage with heat pumps, ATES and ground-source heat pumps in the Netherlands; underground thermal; energy storage with absorption heat pumps; heat pump supported ATES applications in Sweden; underground thermal energy storage in the US; ATES with borehole heat exchangers in Central and Northern Europe.
