Heat pumps for efficient energy use in industrial processes and for process integration.

Author(s) : SILVA A. M., ROSA R.

Summary

The potential of heat-pump application to different processes is appreciated, namely heat recovery, dehumidification and fluid separation in either drying and distillation processes. The potential of heat pumps in combined heating and refrigeration or combined heating and dehumidification applications is emphazised, as well as in other process integration approaches for efficient energy use in industry and in buildings. Particular attention is paid to the operation of heat pumps in situations where large amounts of latent heat have to or may be extracted from a fluid stream. Technical and economical aspects and advantages are considered and a brief summary is presented of the situation in Portugal.
