Summary

Firstly, the power station "Thermofrigoélectrique" built in the 1978's for serving the complex replacing the old central market in the centre of Paris is described. This power station ensures the supply for thermal and refrigerating needs of the Louvre museum region as well as the electricity supply of 24 kilovolts and emergency power. The high power (20 MW for refrigeration, 12 MW for heating, 10 MVA for emergency power) is assured by 5 centrifugal and 2 piston units and 4 boilers. Furthermore, the need to improve the heat recovery performance with regard to the old installation is outlined. Different considered solutions are presented, and the retained one, involving the recovery of heat from the air extracted from the big underground station "Chatelet les Halles" is described in detail.
