Describes and illustrates diagrammatically the five main types of equipment used in building services to reject heat from refrigeration plant: open circuit cooling tower, closed circuit cooling tower, evaporative condenser, air cooled condenser and dry cooler. Discusses energy and maintenance costs determined on the basis of a sponsored research project. Goes on to compare the operating costs of wet and dry systems. Presents ten operational objectives to maximise the efficiency of heat rejection systems. Presents general conclusions from the research.
