Summary

A one-dimensional model was developed to simulate heat transfer behaviour of a rectangular loop, with particular attention to the unravel effect of density inversion of water near 4 deg C. Supporting experiments were undertaken to obtain data to verify the model. The influence of density inversion effect was clearly demonstrated as substantially significant and needs to be taken into account when the operating temperature of the natural circulation loop filled with water encompasses its extreme density temperature.
