Summary

THE APPARATUS MEASURING THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF A PACKED BED AT LOW TEMPERATURE WAS DESIGNED AND THE EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WAS MEASURED FOR SEVERAL BEDS CONSISTING OF GLASS OR METAL PARTICLES. THE EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT TO EXAMINE THE DEPENDENCE OF THE TEMPERATURE, GAS PRESSURE AND OTHER FACTORS ON THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE OF 123 TO 273 K (150 TO 0.C) AND IN THE PRESSURE RANGE OF 0.001 MM HG TO 760 MM HG (0.133 TO 101,315 PA). FROM THE EXPERIMENTS, THE EFFECTS OF RADIATIVE AND PARTICLE CONTACT HEAT TRANSFERS IN PACKED BED ATLOW TEMPERATURE WERE INVESTIGATED.
