HIGH-CURRENT CONDUCTOR FOR SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNET SYSTEMS.

Summary

THE AUTHORS PRESENT THE RESULTS OF AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON HIGH CURRENT SUPERCONDUCTORS UNDER DEVELOPMENT, SUITABLE FOR LARGE-SCALE MHD GENERATORS. THE FREE BOILING SUPERCONDUCTORS CONSIDERED IN THE ARTICLE ARE CABLE TYPES ; THEY ARE CRYOGENICALLY STABILIZED BY A COPPERSUPPLEMENT AND INTERNAL COOLING IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE HEAT TRANSFER SURFACE BY BOILING. THE FINAL DISTURBANCES OCCURRING IN THE WINDINGS HAVE BEEN SIMULATED BY THE INTRODUCTION OF HEAT IMPULSES IN SMALL SAMPLES OF SUPERCONDUCTORS OF 2DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS WHICH TEND TO THE NORMAL STATE AFTER A CERTAIN CURRENT LEVEL. THE CURRENTS FOR THE RETURN TO THE NORMAL STATE HAVE BEEN DETERMINED AT MAGNETIC FIELDS REACHING 6 T AT ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE WITH THE AID OF A FOUR-POINT PROBE.
