Summary
Gifford-McMahon refrigerators have been used for many years in commercial applications of a few watts to over 100 watts as reliable and relatively cheap cryorefrigerators. Especially valuable has been their use in refrigerator cryopumps and in shield cooling in MRI. About 8000 to 10 000 coolers are sold annually. Servicing intervals are typically between 9000 and 18 000 operating hours, and even up to 27 000 hours.
